In the late summer of 2022, concern began to mount for a 23-year-old male named Vatsal Rabari. The young man, who had previously resided in both Ontario and Nova Scotia before moving to Quebec, was last seen on September 19, 2022. His last known location was a service station at the L'Étape rest area, a stopping point situated within the vast Laurentian Wildlife Reserve in Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, Quebec. Standing at approximately five feet five inches tall with a slender build of about 115 pounds, Vatsal has black hair and black eyes. When he was last observed, he was dressed in a grey hooded jacket and black pants. He was also carrying two bags: a dark-coloured backpack and a separate bag for a laptop. The official report of his disappearance was filed with the police on September 25, 2022. This action was prompted by a troubling postdated email that was received by his family and friends, in which Vatsal expressed feelings of despondency. It was also learned that he had recently resigned from his job. An earlier sighting placed him in the Jonquière area on September 18, captured by surveillance cameras at a local business. There were also reports that he may have been seen in Jonquière again on September 20, possibly with a dark-coloured mountain bike.
