In the winter of 2019, a 29-year-old man named Daniel Lee Reoch vanished from a rural area in British Columbia, leaving his family and community with unanswered questions. He was a father to two young children and a member of the Squamish Nation. His disappearance was noted as being extremely out of character, as he was known to stay in contact with his family, especially his children. The last confirmed sighting of Daniel was in the early morning hours of November 26, 2019, on the back porch of his aunt's home in the 6500 block of Squamish Valley Road. From there, he is believed to have walked down a trail leading towards Lewis Drive and was never seen or heard from again. At the time he went missing, Daniel was described as being 5'9" tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a distinctive outfit consisting of multiple layers: a blue, brown, and tan plaid button-up long-sleeved shirt over another blue, black, and beige button-up shirt, dark-coloured suspenders, baggy black pants, and black shoes with white trim on the soles. Notably, his shoes had a black shoelace on the right foot and a white one on the left. The day leading up to his disappearance was marked by a series of interactions with law enforcement. On November 25, 2019, Daniel was taken into custody by the Squamish RCMP around 10:00 a.m. but was released by 5:00 p.m. that same day. The reasons for his brief detention have not been fully disclosed, but it was noted that he seemed to be in a state of crisis. After his release, he was seen on security footage at a Tim Horton's and a Walmart in Squamish. Later that evening, he received a ride to the reservation where he was last seen. His family was concerned about his well-being, and his uncle had been in contact with him after his release from custody. It wasn't until January 7, 2020, that Daniel was officially reported missing to the Squamish RCMP by a family member who had been unable to reach him and realized he had not been seen since before Christmas. Following the report, police conducted several welfare checks but were unable to locate him. The investigation into Daniel's disappearance involved multiple agencies, including the Squamish RCMP, Squamish Nation, the Integrated First Nations Unit, and Squamish Search and Rescue. Extensive searches were carried out by land, water, and air in the Squamish Valley and Paradise Valley areas, but no trace of Daniel was found. His vehicle, a black 2004 Honda Civic, was found abandoned and seized by police on November 26, the day he was last seen. His bank account and phone have remained untouched since he vanished. A potential link to another missing person case, that of Marshall Iwaasa whose burnt-out truck was found nearby around the same time, has been raised by family members who recognized some of the belongings found at that scene as potentially belonging to Daniel. Despite the ongoing investigation and vigils held by his family to keep his memory alive, Daniel Reoch remains a missing person. The case is an overview of a father who disappeared after a series of unsettling events, leaving his loved ones to continue their search for answers.
