Her disappearance occurred while she was reportedly hitchhiking, a common practice for her to travel between the local towns, including Hanover, Walkerton, Port Elgin, and Wiarton. At the time she went missing, Kristina was described as being 5'7" tall, weighing between 150 and 160 pounds, with short, curly red hair and green or hazel eyes. She had a distinctive habit of pinning the bottom of her jeans with five pins on each leg to make them tight at the ankle. In the days and weeks that followed, Kristina was not seen or heard from again, leaving her infant daughter to grow up without knowing her mother. For decades, Kristina's case remained largely out of the public eye, with no significant media attention or official missing person listings found from the initial period of her disappearance. The silence began to break in the fall of 2018 when her biological daughter, Alannah, who had recently connected with her birth father and learned her mother's identity, reached out for help. She contacted Please Bring Me Home, a non-profit organization that investigates cold cases. This action sparked a renewed interest in the case. The organization's inquiries with the Hanover Police Service prompted a formal investigation to be opened by the South Bruce detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). This was a significant step forward in a case that had lain dormant for nearly thirty years. The renewed investigation has brought some details to light, though many questions remain unanswered. An eyewitness reported that Kristina was picked up in Port Elgin by a young couple in what was possibly a blue, four-door Buick Regal from the mid-1970s, after she had called them for a ride. There were also anecdotal accounts and potential sightings of Kristina in the years immediately following 1991, suggesting she may have been alive after she was reported missing, though these have not been confirmed. A private citizen has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts.
