Her family officially reported her missing on June 5, 2007, to the Coquitlam RCMP, sparking an investigation that would stretch on for years. In the initial stages, police received some tips regarding her possible whereabouts, but unfortunately, none of these leads materialized into finding Kim. As years passed, the case remained open, with investigators periodically revisiting the evidence and renewing their calls for public assistance. On the sixth anniversary of her disappearance in 2013, and again in 2016, the Coquitlam RCMP made public appeals, hoping to jog someone's memory. They emphasized that even a seemingly insignificant piece of information could be the key to resolving the case. The enduring pain of Kim's absence has been most deeply felt by her mother, Ann Winston. In 2018, as she approached her 80th birthday, Ann made a heartfelt plea to the public, releasing never-before-seen photos of her daughter in the hopes of generating new leads.
