On a fall day in 1985, a woman named Julie Ann Schneider and her companion, Byron Simmons, ventured out onto the waters of Lake Huron for a day of fishing. They were last seen in their boat on November 1, 1985, near the Bruce Nuclear Power Development in Kincardine, Ontario. The pair had been staying at a nearby cottage and were known to enjoy fishing in the area. The day, however, took a tragic turn as they never returned to shore as expected, and a search was initiated when they failed to come back. Concerns grew as time passed with no sign of Julie Ann or Byron. The initial searches for the couple and their boat were unsuccessful, leaving family and friends in a state of uncertainty and distress. The vastness of Lake Huron presented a significant challenge for search parties. The hope of finding them alive began to fade with each passing day as the harsh realities of the lake's environment were considered. The lack of immediate findings left the community and their loved ones waiting for any news that might bring clarity to the sudden and worrisome disappearance. The following spring, a significant piece of evidence in the case was discovered. The boat that Julie Ann Schneider and Byron Simmons had been using was found washed ashore to the north of where they were last seen, near Oliphant, Ontario. Tragically, neither of the occupants were found with the vessel. Based on the discovery of the boat and the fact that they were never located, authorities came to the heartbreaking conclusion that the couple had most likely drowned in a boating accident. The case serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of large bodies of water and the profound sense of loss that accompanies a disappearance where no final farewell is possible. An overview of the case is that the two were last observed on the water, they did not return as planned, and while their boat was eventually found, they remain missing and are presumed to have been lost to the lake.
