In the autumn of 2003, a 37-year-old mother of three named Ramona Jean Shular vanished from Fort St. John, British Columbia. Known to her loved ones as "Mona," she was a member of the Bigstone Cree Nation. Her sister, Becky, remembers her as a "very loving mother" who was deeply involved with her children and the "joker of the family." Before struggling with drug addiction, Ramona was described as crafty, with a clean and welcoming home, and enjoyed simple pleasures like playing bingo with her mother. However, her life took a difficult turn, and she became a victim of domestic violence, an experience that once led to her hospitalization with significant facial injuries. In the time leading up to her disappearance, Ramona had expressed to her sister that she was fearful for her safety due to a drug debt she was struggling to repay. The last time her family had contact with her was in November of 2003. She was living with her husband at the time she stopped reaching out to her family. Concerned after a period of no contact, Ramona's sisters, Becky Shular and Roxanne Kraushar, reported her missing. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Fort St. John launched an investigation into her disappearance, which they have deemed to be suspicious. Despite their efforts, which have included searches and following up on leads, Ramona has not been found. Over the years, the case has been handled by several different officers, a common occurrence in smaller communities due to transfers. Ramona's family continues to hold out hope for answers. They have appreciated the efforts of law enforcement, recalling one officer who used his own time off to help them search for her in another town. Ramona is described as having a medium build, standing 5'6" tall and weighing around 154 pounds at the time of her disappearance. She had long red hair, brown eyes, and a fair complexion. She has several distinguishing marks, including a mole in front of her left ear, a scar from her right eyebrow to her cheekbone, and multiple tattoos: a red heart and rose on her right ankle, an Aztec design on her lower back, a heart and rose with "Roxy Mona" on her left ankle, and a pink and green orchid on her right chest. The investigation into Ramona Jean Shular's disappearance remains open as her family waits for a resolution to their profound loss.
