Four days after she was last seen, on September 4, 2016, her family officially reported her missing. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) launched an investigation into Jami's disappearance, which they quickly deemed to be suspicious. It was uncharacteristic for her to be out of contact with her loved ones for such an extended period. As the search continued with few leads, the investigation was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit.
