In the early summer of 1988, Robert St-Louis was a 42-year-old master furrier and a father to five children living in Laval, Quebec. The evening of June 14th began like many others; he spent the day with his daughter, Nathalie, before leaving her home around 10:30 p.m. for the short drive back to his own residence. When his wife arrived home two hours later, at 12:30 a.m., she found the house empty. A sense of unease settled in when she discovered that Robert had left without his wallet or his keys. The family's concern grew as his beige 1980 Jeep Cherokee Chief was also gone. A neighbor later reported seeing his truck leaving the house around 12:15 a.m., but was unable to see who was behind the wheel or if there was anyone else in the vehicle. From that moment, the life of Robert St-Louis became a painful and enduring mystery. For decades, the St-Louis family, particularly his daughter, held onto hope and tirelessly pursued any lead that might bring them answers. In the initial stages of the investigation, with no signs of foul play, authorities considered the possibility that Robert had left voluntarily, a theory the family struggled to accept given his close ties to them. The years that followed were filled with uncertainty and moments of fleeting, often painful, hope. A strange clue surfaced in 1997 when one of Robert's unique, hand-corrected business cards was discovered in a bathroom in Dorval, a considerable distance from his home. The card was confirmed by a family member to have been one he kept in his Jeep's glove compartment, but this lead, like others, did not bring them any closer to the truth. The family's resolve was tested time and again, including following a lead about a man in Ohio that ultimately proved to be a different person after DNA comparison. After 37 years of unanswered questions, the family's unwavering dedication finally brought a resolution to their prolonged search. At the request of the St-Louis family, a specialized diving group called Exploring With a Mission began searching the Mille-ÃŽles River in July 2025. Using sonar equipment, the team located a vehicle submerged in the water that matched the description of Robert's long-lost Jeep Cherokee Chief. Tragically, human remains were discovered inside the vehicle. The Quebec coroner's office later confirmed through testing that the remains were those of Robert St-Louis. The discovery marked the end of a nearly four-decade search, bringing a sorrowful conclusion to the family that had displayed profound resilience and never given up hope of finding him.
