In the early summer of 2003, a 35-year-old man named Kendall Sydney Sumner vanished from his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was last seen on June 8th of that year. Kendall, an Indigenous man, was a son, and a stepfather. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as having a slender build, standing between 5’7†and 5’10†and weighing around 146 pounds, with black, wavy hair and brown eyes. His family knew him to occasionally leave without notice, but his absences were never for an extended period. As days turned into weeks and then months with no word, concern grew into a deep and lasting anxiety for his loved ones, as this prolonged silence was entirely out of character for him. Kendall's physical description includes several distinct features that his family hoped would make him identifiable. He had a number of scars, including hesitation scars on his forearms, a Y-shaped scar on his back, a six-inch scar on his inner right thigh, and another on his left arm. He also had a noticeable tattoo on his left upper arm that consisted of an eagle, a heart, and the letters "EP". Friends and family also noted that he had visibly missing teeth. At the time he went missing from his residence on Edison Avenue, he was in need of medication, a fact that added another layer of urgency and worry for those who cared for him. The circumstances surrounding Kendall Sumner's disappearance remain unknown, leaving a painful void for his family. Despite the passage of many years, the case has grown cold, with very little information available to the public about what might have happened to him. For his family, including a stepdaughter who has expressed her grief online, the lack of answers is a source of continuous pain. The investigation into his disappearance is managed by the Winnipeg Police Service. The case of Kendall Sumner is a somber reminder of the many individuals who disappear without a trace, leaving behind families to grapple with unending uncertainty and the hope that one day they will find the answers they have been seeking for so long.
