On July 24, 2007, 78-year-old Luciano Trinaistich left his home in Porcupine, Ontario, with the intention of spending the afternoon picking blueberries, a common pastime in the area. He told his wife he was headed to the Murphy Road area near Timmins, a spot he was familiar with. When he did not return home for supper that evening, his wife reported him missing, sparking a search for the elderly man. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a Caucasian male, standing about 5'5" tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds, with short, balding grey hair and glasses. He was believed to be wearing green work pants, a blue shirt, and a yellow hat.

The day after he was reported missing, on July 25, 2007, searchers located Mr. Trinaistich's light blue Jeep Grand Cherokee on a narrow bush road in Murphy Township. The discovery of the vehicle, however, only deepened the mystery. The Jeep was found unlocked with the windows down, and the keys were inside. This was uncharacteristic, as he was known to lock his vehicle and leave the keys on a tire, concerned he might lose them in the bush. Adding to the perplexing scene, his wallet was found inside the vehicle, and all of his blueberry baskets were still there, suggesting he may not have even begun picking berries. Though he was a smoker, not a single cigarette butt was found in the vicinity.

Immediately following the discovery of his vehicle, an extensive search was launched. The Timmins Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue scoured the dense bushland thick with ripe berries. The search efforts were exhaustive, utilizing ATVs, canine units, and helicopters, but turned up no trace of the missing man. Various theories were considered by investigators, including the possibility of an animal attack or that he might have fallen into an old mineshaft, but no evidence was ever found to support these scenarios. The complete absence of any clues left family and investigators baffled.

Over the years, the case of Luciano Trinaistich has remained open. His disappearance has had a lasting impact on the community, and the search for answers has not been abandoned. Volunteer groups have organized renewed search efforts in the years since he vanished, using drones and conducting meticulous grid searches of the area where his car was found. The case gained further local attention when another man, Christopher Rivers, went missing in a similar manner from the same area a decade later, with his vehicle found just 400 feet from where Trinaistich's was discovered. Despite the passage of time and the persistent efforts of law enforcement and community volunteers, what happened to Luciano Trinaistich after he drove down that bush road remains a painful and unresolved mystery.
