In the small community of Norland, Ontario, the autumn of 2023 brought with it a sense of unease following the disappearance of 57-year-old Michael J. Walker. On the evening of Sunday, November 5, 2023, Michael was last seen leaving a party at a friend's home. It was believed he was making the short journey back to his father's residence, located just 15 minutes east of the hamlet of Kinmount, Ontario. The following day, a concerning discovery was made when Michael's vehicle was found parked in his father's driveway. The car was unlocked, and the keys were nowhere to be found, and there was no sign of Michael. From that moment, he was not seen or heard from again.
As days turned into weeks, and then months, concern for Michael's well-being grew within the community and among his family. An official missing person report was filed by a family member on January 7, 2024, after they had been unable to make contact with him.
The Ontario Provincial Police initiated an investigation, conducting extensive searches in the Norland and Minden areas. Michael was described as a man of large build, standing approximately 6'3" and weighing 325 pounds, with short dark brown hair and blue eyes. He had several distinct tattoos, including a lion covering his back and an image of Jesus on his left arm, as well as a scar on his right cheek. At the time he went missing, he was believed to be wearing a dark blue hoodie and track pants. Friends and family noted that it was out of character for him to be out of contact for such a long period.
For over two years, the case remained a mystery, with Michael's whereabouts unknown. The investigation, however, continued, and police eventually gathered information that led them to suspect foul play was involved in his disappearance. In a significant and somber development, on September 16, 2026, the OPP arrested Michael's 81-year-old father, Bazil Walker of Peterborough. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body. The investigation involves the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. This arrest marked a tragic turning point in the long search for answers, bringing a painful conclusion to the community's hopes for Michael's safe return and shifting the focus of the case to the pursuit of justice. The overview of the case reflects a deeply distressing situation where a man vanished after a social gathering, leading to a prolonged investigation that ultimately implicated his own father in his death.Last Seen: Nov 5, 2023
