On the cold morning of January 29, 1975, nine-year-old Simon Wilson left his family's apartment in Toronto, Ontario, for his usual walk to school, a journey from which he would never return. The young boy, described as having blonde curly hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a green parka, brown pants, and rubber boots. When Simon failed to arrive at Parkfield Public School, a search was initiated that would grip the community in fear and uncertainty. The initial investigation quickly focused on the extensive network of storm sewers and the nearby creek adjacent to his apartment building, a place where children were known to play. This theory gained traction with both the police and Simon's own father, who suspected his son may have sought refuge in the underground tunnels.

The search of the dark and winding sewer system was extensive, involving police, city workers, and even tracking dogs. In the days that followed Simon's disappearance, searchers made a curious discovery within the tunnels: a suitcase containing food and drinks, seemingly left for someone. There were even unconfirmed reports of a voice, believed by some to be Simon's, echoing from within the sewers. These findings fueled speculation that Simon was alive and hiding, possibly with assistance from other children. This theory was further bolstered when three other boys were found in the tunnels, claiming they were looking for Simon. They had with them a suitcase with sandwiches and thermoses, leading some to believe they were trying to aid their missing friend. The active search was eventually called off on February 5, 1975, with no trace of the young boy found.

In the weeks and months that followed, the absence of any concrete evidence led to a host of rumors and theories. One prevalent rumor suggested that a relative had taken Simon out of Canada. The case grew colder with each passing year, leaving his family and community with unanswered questions. The disappearance of Simon Wilson had a profound impact on the neighborhood, shattering the innocence of his young classmates and instilling a sense of danger that had not existed before. Despite the passage of decades, the case officially remains an open investigation with the Toronto Police Service. The story of the nine-year-old boy who vanished on his way to school serves as a somber reminder of the enduring pain and uncertainty that surrounds a missing child.
