Summary based on 1 source
On the morning of September 29, 1979, a sense of adventure was in the air as seven men embarked on a fishing trip from Anama Bay, Manitoba. Among them was 39-year-old Jerry Arnold Hudy. The group set out at approximately 8:30 a.m. in three separate boats, with their destination being Warpath. What began as a day of recreation and camaraderie would soon turn into a tragedy that would leave a lasting impact on their families and the local community. The men were familiar with the waters, but the vast and unpredictable nature of the Manitoba landscape would present a challenge that day.

As the day wore on, the weather began to shift, and the conditions on the water grew increasingly perilous. The men in the lead boat later recounted to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that the waves had swelled to a formidable three to four feet in height. In the midst of the turbulent water, they lost sight of the other two boats carrying Jerry Hudy and four other men. In a desperate attempt to signal their companions, they fired shotgun blasts into the air, but their calls for a response went unanswered. By 7:30 p.m. that evening, with no sign of the other boats, they officially reported their friends as missing, sparking an urgent and widespread search effort.

The report of the five missing fishermen launched an extensive and exhaustive search operation. Air, boat, and land patrols were dispatched to scour the vast and challenging terrain in a determined effort to locate the missing men. Despite the tireless efforts of all involved in the search, the outcome was grim. While the bodies of three of the missing men were eventually located, Jerry Arnold Hudy and Fredrick Ursu were never found. The official consensus is that both men tragically drowned in the tumultuous waters. The case remains a somber reminder of the unforgiving power of nature and the profound loss experienced by the families who were left without answers and without the chance to say a final goodbye. The disappearance of Jerry Arnold Hudy is a deeply felt loss, and his memory is preserved in the accounts of that fateful day.
