On the evening of May 25, 1991, 21-year-old Corey Delano Johnson borrowed his father's burgundy Mercury Grand Marquis in Richmond, Virginia, as his own vehicle was undergoing repairs. This would be the last time he was seen by his family. The following day, the car he was driving was discovered abandoned in a ditch on Crown Hill Road in Hanover County, approximately seven miles from where he was last seen. The discovery of the vehicle marked the beginning of a long and troubling mystery for Johnson's family and investigators. Upon examination of the recovered vehicle, a grim scene unfolded. Investigators found a significant amount of blood, as well as skull fragments and brain tissue inside the trunk. Forensic analysis later confirmed that the blood belonged to Corey Johnson. Despite the horrific evidence found in the car, Johnson's body was never located. Reports from the time indicated that he may have been seen with three unidentified Black males in the car after leaving his father's house, but these leads did not result in his recovery or definitive answers about his fate. The case quickly grew cold, leaving his loved ones in a state of perpetual uncertainty. Over the years, the investigation into Corey Johnson's disappearance has remained open, eventually becoming a cold case. Virginia State Police have continued to seek new leads and information from the public, hoping that the passage of time might encourage someone with knowledge of the case to come forward. The creation of a statewide cold case database in Virginia has offered a new platform to bring attention to unresolved cases like Johnson's, with the hope that increased public visibility might finally generate the tips needed to bring closure to his family. The case of Corey Delano Johnson is a haunting story of a young man who vanished, leaving behind only disturbing evidence and a family left to grapple with the unknown.
