Summary based on 1 source
On a crisp autumn day, October 29, 1988, 35-year-old James Norman Lacouture, a resident of Millbury, Massachusetts, vanished. Known as Jimmy to his friends and family, he was a married father of three. That day, he and his brother, David Lacouture, had plans to work on a house David was building in a remote area of Hardwick, Massachusetts. However, they altered their plans and instead spent time at a local pub. Later, James's wife discovered David intoxicated and asleep on her couch. When she inquired about her husband's whereabouts, David told her that James was also home, but he was nowhere to be found. Alarmed when she could not locate him after checking in Hardwick, she reported him missing to the police.

Initially, authorities treated James's absence as a possible drinking binge, speculating he would soon return. However, as days turned into an agonizing wait with no word from James, concern grew. His wife insisted that it was highly uncharacteristic of him to abandon his family. Tragically, the case took a dark turn five days after James's disappearance when his brother, David, took his own life. The suicide note he left behind offered no explanation or clues regarding James's location, deepening the mystery and leaving the family with more questions than answers. It remains unclear if David's suicide was directly connected to his brother's disappearance.

Despite extensive searches, including the use of police dogs in the area near the partially constructed home in Hardwick, no trace of James Lacouture was ever found. Investigators now suspect that he met with foul play. James was a white male with brown hair, and green/hazel eyes, and he had a beard at the time of his disappearance. He stood at 5'5" and weighed around 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and jeans. Over the years, the hope of finding James alive has faded, and his wife has since purchased a cemetery plot and tombstone for him. James Norman Lacouture has been declared legally dead, but the case of what happened to him remains unsolved, leaving a void in the lives of his loved ones.
