In the spring of 2012, 56-year-old Robert O. Cartwright, a resident of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, vanished, leaving behind a community in distress and a mystery that endures. On April 14, 2012, Robert was last seen at a relative's home located on State Road 86, west of Tomahawk. Those who saw him that day noted that he seemed to be feeling down. After he departed from the family member's residence, he was not seen or heard from again. Concern grew when friends reported him missing on the evening of Tuesday, April 17th. Authorities with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department believe that he most likely left his home in the Town of Bradley on Sunday, April 15th. In a deeply concerning turn, it was discovered that Robert had left without his vehicle, wallet, or necessary medication, all of which were found at his residence.
Following the report of his disappearance, an extensive search effort was launched in the areas surrounding his home and where he was last seen.
Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff's office, alongside Robert's friends, conducted thorough ground searches. The search efforts were bolstered by volunteer K9 units, DNR rangers and foresters, and volunteer firefighters from several local departments, including Corning, Russell, Pine River, and Tomahawk. Numerous properties in the vicinity of Allery Road off of County Road E, south of Tomahawk, were carefully examined over the weekend, but these exhaustive searches yielded no clues as to Robert's whereabouts. The lack of any sign of him deepened the concern for his well-being.
Robert is described as a white and Asian male, standing at 5'6" to 5'7" and weighing between 165 and 190 pounds. He has brown/gray hair and hazel or gray/hazel eyes, and may have had a mustache at the time he went missing. The clothing he was wearing on the day he disappeared is unknown. Despite the passage of years, his case remains an active missing person investigation with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance, particularly his emotional state and the fact that he left behind essential personal items, have created a perplexing and somber case for law enforcement and his loved ones.
