In the late summer of 2022, concern began to grow for 31-year-old Andrew Chase Castillo, an Army veteran who was last seen in Dallas, Texas, on September 9, 2022. On that day, Andrew, also known as Chase, had reached out for help by calling a suicide hotline. In response to this call for assistance, the Waxahachie Police Department located him and transported him to the Dallas Veterans Medical Center for care. He was admitted into the mental health unit for observation and treatment. This would be the last confirmed location of Andrew, leaving his family desperately searching for answers. Andrew's mother, after being unable to reach him, contacted the Waxahachie Police to request a welfare check at a hotel where he had been staying. It was then that she was informed by the police that they had taken her son to the Dallas Veterans Medical Center. However, when she contacted the medical center on September 17, 2022, she was told that Andrew was no longer a patient there. Since his discharge, neither family nor friends have had any contact with him. This lack of communication was highly uncharacteristic of Andrew, who typically kept in touch with his loved ones. At the time of his disappearance, Andrew Castillo was described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt with a white skull design on the front, dark-colored jeans, and black and white sneakers, possibly Adidas or Nike. He was also carrying a U.S. Army-issued camouflage backpack and a matching duffel bag. A notable distinguishing feature is a black ink tribal design tattoo on his right shoulder blade that extends up and over his shoulder to his collarbone. Andrew's family has shared that he lives with mental health diagnoses, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and has experienced suicidal ideations. The Ellis County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation into his disappearance and urges anyone with information to come forward. The case remains a painful and unresolved situation for his family, who continue to hope for his safe return while grappling with the uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts since he left the Dallas medical facility.
