In the summer of 2022, a sense of unease settled over the community of Gilmer, Texas, following the disappearance of 30-year-old Corey Dean Williams. On the night of July 27th, Corey was at a friend's house in the small Upshur County town. Around midnight, he departed in his white 1995 Mercury Cougar, a detail that would soon become a pivotal point in the investigation into his whereabouts. At the time he went missing, Corey was wearing a distinctive neon yellow shirt, blue jeans, a black hat, and black FUBU shoes. He is described as a white male, standing six feet tall and weighing around 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. The day after Corey was last seen, his car was discovered abandoned and stuck in the sand off Azalea Road, near Texas Highway 154, just east of Gilmer. This location was approximately five miles from the friend's house he had left the night before. The condition of the vehicle immediately raised red flags for investigators; the ignition had been gutted, suggesting potential foul play. The Upshur County Sheriff's Office, leading the investigation, considered his disappearance to be suspicious from the outset. Inside the abandoned car, authorities found items that led them to believe his disappearance might be connected to drug use or a related transaction. In the wake of his disappearance, extensive search efforts were launched to find any trace of Corey. These efforts involved the use of drones equipped with heat-sensing technology to scan the area where his car was found. K9 units and private cadaver dogs were also brought in to aid in the search. A mounted search team from a local church even volunteered their time and resources, but tragically, no new evidence was uncovered. Corey has several distinct tattoos that his family hoped would help identify him: the letter "W" on his left hand between his thumb and forefinger, the letter "C" in a similar position on his right hand, a rose with green leaves on the right side of his chest, and a square on the back of his calf. The case of Corey Williams remains an open and troubling mystery, leaving his loved ones and the community searching for answers. The abrupt and puzzling nature of his disappearance, coupled with the suspicious circumstances surrounding his abandoned vehicle, continues to fuel concerns for his well-being.
