In the early summer of 2021, 65-year-old Lester Youngs Whitmeyer was in Oregon visiting his son and family. On June 18, while in the Oakridge area, he spoke with a family member and mentioned he was planning to go to the McCredie Hot Springs, a series of natural geothermal pools located in the Willamette National Forest.
