Myrtle Polk, an 88-year-old beloved grandmother and retired teacher, vanished from her home in the Laureland neighborhood of southern Dallas, Texas. She was last seen on June 8, 2024, sitting outside her house on Indian Creek Trail, enjoying a conversation with a neighbor. Concerns for her well-being grew when she failed to attend church services the following day, an unusual occurrence for the devout church member. At the time of her disappearance, Polk was in the early stages of dementia, though her family noted she was still highly functional. Along with Myrtle, her vehicle, a black 2004 Lexus ES 330, was also missing from her residence. A Silver Alert was issued on June 10, 2024, to aid in the search for the missing elderly woman. For seventeen months, the search for Myrtle Polk yielded no significant leads, leaving her family and community in a state of desperate uncertainty. Her son, Phillip, traveled from his home in Atlanta to lead search efforts, which included checking local hospitals and shelters, while volunteers canvassed her neighborhood in hopes of finding any information. The community held vigils, a testament to how cherished "Mama M" or "Aunt Myrt," as she was affectionately known, was. The prolonged absence of both Myrtle and her car deepened the mystery surrounding her disappearance, causing immense pain and worry for her loved ones. A significant development in the case occurred in November 2025, when children playing near Five Mile Creek discovered Myrtle's black Lexus sedan submerged and overturned in the water. The vehicle was located more than 100 yards from the nearest road, a detail that raised more questions than answers. Tragically, while some of her personal belongings were found inside the car, Myrtle was not. The discovery prompted a renewed and intensive search of the creek and the surrounding area by Dallas police, including K-9 units and officers on horseback. Despite these efforts, no further clues as to her whereabouts were found. The case of Myrtle Polk remains an active missing person investigation, a painful and unresolved chapter for a family and community still holding out hope for answers.
