In the late summer of 2017, concern began to grow for 62-year-old David Wayne Harting in Front Royal, Virginia. The last confirmed communication from him was a conversation with a friend on August 27, 2017. In the days leading up to this, between August 25th and 26th, he was seen driving his black 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck around town. A final sighting was made by his own brother at a local gas station on August 26th. After more than a week without contact, his family grew worried, and on September 5, 2017, David Harting was officially reported as a missing person to the Warren County Sheriff's Office. An urgent element to the search was the fact that Harting suffered from glaucoma in his right eye and was in need of medication to manage his condition. The investigation took a significant turn just two days after the official report was filed. On September 7th, Harting's Dodge Dakota was discovered abandoned in a rural, remote area in the southern part of Warren County. Inside the vehicle, investigators found his wallet and other personal belongings, but there was no sign of David himself. Law enforcement conducted extensive and thorough searches of the rugged terrain surrounding the abandoned truck. Despite their efforts, they found no clues, no physical evidence, and no indication of where he might have gone or what could have happened to him. The discovery of his truck with personal items left behind only deepened the mystery and heightened the concern for his well-being. The disappearance of David Harting remains an unsolved case, leaving his family and community with unanswered questions. At the time he went missing, he was described as being six feet tall, weighing between 170 and 180 pounds, with graying hair and brown eyes. He had shoulder-length hair and a long beard, though it was noted that he did shave occasionally. The case is classified as an endangered missing person, and the investigation remains open. Years have passed without any substantial leads, and the fate of David Harting is still unknown. Authorities continue to ask for the public's help, hoping that someone might have information that could finally shed light on what happened to him after he was last seen in August of 2017.
