On January 29, 1989, Daniel Frank McDonald, age 37, was a passenger aboard the 98-foot steel crab fishing vessel, the Vestfjord. The ship was en route from Seattle to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, when it encountered a severe storm. The vessel and its six-person crew were lost approximately 30 miles south of the Trinity Islands, just west of Kodiak Island.
