Gary Boutilier, a 19-year-old Marine, was last seen on June 17, 1978, after leaving the Millington Naval Air Station in Tennessee. He had recently purchased a new motorcycle and told his friends he planned to take a ride through rural roads near Shelby Park. However, he never returned to the base. His disappearance was initially treated as a possible desertion, a common practice by military regulations at the time, but after four years, his status was changed to "missing."
