On a cold winter day in January 1974, 44-year-old Wesley S. Kielczewski was traversing the expansive, frozen landscape of Tustumena Lake in Soldotna, Alaska, on his snow machine. The serene but unforgiving Alaskan wilderness became the backdrop for a tragedy when the ice gave way beneath him.
