A celebration in Charleston, Missouri, ended in tragedy on February 19, 2022, when gunfire erupted at a party held in a cinder block building that had once been an auto mechanic shop. Two young women were killed and fourteen others were wounded; among the dead was 19-year-old Brianna Daisy Schumer of Cape Girardeau, a 2020 Cape Central High School graduate who enjoyed travel and time with friends and family.

The party reportedly drew as many as 100 people from Missouri and Illinois. Charleston authorities identified 23-year-old Clintayzia Clark as the other person killed and said four people were left in critical or serious condition. The Charleston Department of Public Safety arrested two Charleston residents, 21-year-old Kevon Evans-McClinton and 19-year-old Zatyrus Moore, and charged them with multiple counts including second-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action; both were held in the county jail without bond.
