On May 23, 2021, authorities in Independence, Missouri, found the bodies of 72-year-old Billy Dean Davis and 35-year-old Ashley D. Walker after a Jeep Renegade crashed into a parked vehicle on the 500 block of South Ash Avenue. Both victims suffered gunshot wounds; the SUV was riddled with bullet holes and had shattered driver’s side and rear windows. Officers located a related primary crime scene in an alley behind a residence on North Huttig Avenue, where investigators recovered more than a dozen shell casings and shattered glass.

Witnesses, including two children on bicycles, reported hearing the sound of a gun being racked and shots fired shortly after a man walked out of a nearby house. Detectives identified 44-year-old Steven B. Turner Jr. of Higginsville as a suspect; police said he had a contentious history with Davis and had allegedly shot at him on two prior occasions, though he was reportedly friends with Walker. A manhunt ended on May 26, 2021, when Turner was located at an apartment building in Kansas City and taken into custody; officers say he discarded a Glock 10mm during the operation and ballistics later matched casings to the scene.

If anyone knew Davis, Walker, or their movements in Independence that morning, please share information with investigators.
