Jason Michael Swanson, 37, of Warsaw, Missouri, died on December 22, 2020, after a shotgun blast during a domestic disturbance at a home off State Highway BB. Deputies were called just before 6:30 a.m.; a woman at the residence, Patricia Garvey, told 911 Swanson had been shot in the upper torso during a struggle involving a 12-gauge shotgun. She said she retrieved the shotgun during a break in the dispute, held it while remaining on a cordless phone, and that the gun discharged when Swanson swiped the muzzle as he approached.

Swanson collapsed and was found dead at the scene. Garvey was arrested and charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action, entered a not-guilty plea, and posted a $25,000 surety bond in late December 2020.
