On May 9, 2020, 13-year-old Owen Steven Whayne Fielder was shot in the head while visiting a friend’s mobile home on Mar-Ton Estates Drive in O’Fallon, Missouri. The shooting happened in a bedroom while Owen and a 16-year-old acquaintance were handling a 9mm pistol. The older teen, Dylan J. Woolbright, handed the gun to Owen, took it back, operated the slide and pulled the trigger; a round struck Owen. Owen was taken to the hospital and died on May 12, 2020 after three days in intensive care. His mother authorized organ donation, and five people reportedly benefited.
Law enforcement arrested Woolbright. Because of the seriousness of the incident and his juvenile record, a judge certified him to be tried as an adult. Prosecutors charged him with involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action; he later pleaded guilty to both counts and was placed in a dual jurisdiction program with youth detention, counseling and vocational training until age 21.
If anyone knew Owen, Woolbright, or was in that neighborhood on May 9, what did they see or hear that afternoon?
