Lorie A. Lankford was 60 and a longtime Pleasant Hill resident whose life revolved around family, gardening, baking and her pets. On the evening of February 8, 2020, deputies responded to a shooting at her home on South State Route E. Lorie was found unresponsive in the basement and pronounced dead after emergency crews arrived.

Authorities described the incident as domestic. A man was located outside the house and identified as Lorie’s husband, 56-year-old John Bradley Lankford; he was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was held at the Cass County Jail on a cash-only bond set at $500,000.
