Jaylen T. Blackmon, a 20-year-old man from Kansas City, was fatally shot just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019, in the 13200 block of Overhill Road in Grandview, Missouri. Responding officers found him deceased on a sidewalk from a gunshot wound.

Witnesses and family accounts say the shooting arose from an altercation over a shoe transaction. Blackmon and his girlfriend had arranged to meet a teenage boy to buy a pair of shoes that Blackmon suspected were counterfeit; when he tried to get his money back the situation escalated and the boy allegedly shot him. Family members called his death a senseless murder and remembered him as a beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, boyfriend and friend who loved cars, basketball and music.

The Grandview Police Department investigated in the days after the shooting and had made no arrests; authorities asked anyone with information to contact the TIPS Hotline. Does anyone have information about that night or the people involved?
