Stephon Abron was a 20-year-old University of Central Missouri student and aviation major who was killed on November 4, 2019, inside his on-campus Greenwood Park Apartments unit in Warrensburg, Missouri. Authorities say the shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. while another student, 24-year-old Jeremy Allen Manley, was visiting and showing Abron a 9mm handgun; the weapon discharged and struck Abron. Abron’s roommate was present, and despite attempts to render aid Abron was pronounced dead at the scene.
Manley was taken into custody by the university’s Department of Public Safety and charged by the Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney with second-degree involuntary manslaughter. Investigators concluded the shooting was accidental and that proper firearm safety protocols were not observed. The case raises questions about how the gun came to be handled inside the apartment and what safety steps were missed. If anyone knew Stephon or was in the Greenwood Park Apartments that afternoon, please share what you remember.
