On October 31, 2019, officers in Jefferson City, Missouri, responded to a home in the 1900 block of Rolling Hills Drive after reports of a shooting. Investigators found 18-year-old Marquise Conley inside the residence; he had sustained multiple fatal gunshot wounds. Detectives say the violence may have stemmed from a dispute over another person being in the home.
In the investigation that followed, two teenagers were identified as primary suspects. Devin Schrimpf, 17 at the time, was arrested and initially charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action; court filings allege he told a witness he intended to shoot the place up after learning another male was inside. A second 17-year-old, Grant Deppe, was later charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with physical evidence, accused of helping cause the death and hiding the firearm used.
Legal developments included Schrimpf pleading guilty to lesser counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action under a deal that included an agreed sentencing recommendation with a specified maximum term in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Deppe was certified to be tried as an adult on the felony charges. Did anyone in Jefferson City know Marquise or see activity around Rolling Hills Drive that night?
