On the night of September 4, 2019, 25-year-old Timothy Hunter was shot and killed during a planned narcotics transaction in the parking lot of the Belton Heights Apartments in the 1000 block of North Scott Avenue, Belton, Missouri. Hunter had been contacted via Facebook by a young woman who arranged to buy marijuana; the buyer was part of a group that conspired to use a prop movie money $100 bill to steal the drugs instead of paying for them.

When the group arrived in a white Buick sedan, Hunter approached the vehicle to complete the exchange. As the occupants attempted to flee with the drugs, the car lurched backward and Hunter was shot once in the chest. Emergency responders found him critically wounded around 11:30 p.m.; he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Investigators recovered the counterfeit bill, marked for movie use only, near his body.

Belton police and the Metropolitan Area Major Case Squad later arrested five people identified in court records as 19-year-old Crishon Marquese Willis, 18-year-old Makayla Marie Davis, 20-year-old Shane M. Pierce, 18-year-old Alea Marie Campbell, and 18-year-old Andre Alonzo McKinney III. Prosecutors charged all five with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, forgery, and armed criminal action, and police alleged Willis fired the fatal shot from the back seat. Hunter’s family called him Timmy.

Did anyone in the Belton area witness the exchange or see the white Buick that night?
