In the early morning hours of July 19, 2019, authorities in Greenwood, Missouri, responded to a distress call at a residence in the 2200 block of Main Street. Officers arrived about 2:00 a.m. and found homeowner Randy Devon Cox suffering from a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident was investigated as a violent death.
Randy Cox was 65, born in Fort Scott, Kansas, and a graduate of Oak Grove High School. He had worked as a welder for Armco Steel and was involved in real estate and automobile sales. A widower who enjoyed hunting and fishing, he had deep ties to the local community.
Investigators detained and questioned a woman connected to the incident, but her identity was not released and no charges were announced in the days after the shooting. The Greenwood Police Department said the case would be submitted to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Does anyone with knowledge of Greenwood in July 2019 have information that could help clarify what happened?
