On the night of February 18, 2019, Marcus Allen Dixon Jr., 24, was fatally shot in Sikeston, Missouri, at about 11:30 p.m. He left behind a young son and siblings and was described as a laid-back, protective father and brother.
Investigators focused on movements of Cornelius Perkins. Witnesses placed Perkins in the area that evening, and earlier, at about 9:30 p.m., he had been seen attempting to force entry into a nearby home while carrying a distinctive 9mm Hi-Point handgun. Phone records showed Perkins called an acquaintance shortly afterward asking if they wanted to hit a lick, a request that was declined. Five days after the shooting Perkins attempted to dispose of the 9mm handgun later identified as the murder weapon, and his claimed alibi that he was in Charleston was contradicted by witness testimony and cell tower data.
Perkins was arrested on February 28, 2019, tried, and a jury convicted him of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm; the court ordered consecutive prison terms totaling 50 years. Does anyone have information about Marcus’s last movements or was in the Sikeston area that night?
