Mason R. Teel, 24, was found unresponsive on the icy driveway of his Belton, Missouri home on a frigid February morning in 2019, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was discovered without a coat or shoes outside the residence he shared with roommates. The shooting was the first homicide in Belton that year.
Family remembered Teel as a warm, affectionate young man who had just celebrated his birthday days earlier. Investigators focused on someone Teel knew; a few days after the killing Belton police arrested 21-year-old Demetrius Dontae Singh, a childhood friend. Evidence on Teel’s cellphone suggested plans for a marijuana transaction that night, and the vehicle driver who brought Singh to the home said Singh believed he had been shorted. A witness reported seeing a car at the driveway and hearing gunshots before seeing the wounded victim.
Singh was charged with first-degree murder and bound over for trial in October 2019; he was held on $1 million bond. Does anyone with knowledge of Teel’s relationships or the events that night have information to share?
