On the morning of December 29, 2018, a vehicle parked between the Westside Inn and Bud’s Place on Concannon Street in Moberly, Missouri, was found to contain two men shot dead. One victim was identified as Darren Tharp, 51, of Columbia; the other was 24-year-old Shane Hare. Investigators determined both men died of single gunshot wounds to the head and concluded the killings were tied to a robbery intended to obtain methamphetamine.
Within days, police identified four people connected to the crime. Christopher A. Esry, 20, of Madison, was accused of being the shooter and of orchestrating the robbery. Aaron D. Bloss, 40, and Travis A. Koenig, 29, both of Moberly, were charged in connection with the deaths, and 22-year-old Steven Bell of Moberly was charged with tampering with physical evidence for attempting to burn clothes and destroy Tharp’s vehicle.
Court filings show Esry allegedly coerced Bloss into taking part by threatening his family. Esry later pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and received 20 years; Bell pleaded guilty to tampering and received four years. Does anyone have information about Tharp’s activities in Moberly in the weeks before December 29?
