Kiera Cline was 29 when she was shot and killed in the early morning hours of July 5, 2018, after going to a residence near Raytown Road and East 68th Street in Raytown to visit her boyfriend. Officers found her inside the home with fatal gunshot wounds. The Raytown Police Department initially handled the case before the Missouri State Highway Patrol took over to examine conflicting accounts of what happened.

Police arrested the boyfriend, the home’s occupant, on suspicion of second-degree murder. He told investigators the shooting was self-defense, saying Cline had broken into his residence and he believed she was an intruder. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office later declined to file criminal charges, concluding the shooting was justifiable and that prosecutors could not disprove the self-defense claim beyond a reasonable doubt.

Cline’s parents, Marquita and Tyrone Davis, disputed that account, stating the relationship was abusive and that the context of domestic violence was overlooked. The family created a nonprofit called Butterflies for Kiki to honor her memory and advocate for other victims of domestic violence. Does anyone have information about Kiera, her relationship, or the night of July 5, 2018?
