Tyson L. White was 16 when he was shot and killed outside his family’s apartment at the Arbors of Grandview in Grandview, Missouri, on May 29, 2018. A single gunshot to his back pierced his heart; he was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. Tyson was a student and football player in the Hickman Mills School District.
A neighbor reported seeing a car with tinted windows confront Tyson in the driveway; a window was rolled down and the fatal shot was fired. Investigators learned Tyson had arranged to meet another teenager that afternoon to buy a handgun for his protection.
Within days, 18-year-old Ja’quann L. McCarver of Kansas City was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. McCarver told police he had agreed to sell the gun, took the money, and said he fired to scare Tyson and did not intend to kill him; prosecutors requested $100,000 bond. Does anyone have information about Tyson, the meeting that day, or what was seen at the apartment complex?
