A domestic dispute in the Allenville area near Chaffee, Missouri, on March 30, 2018, ended in fatal gunfire. According to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office, 66-year-old Raymond Holweg retrieved a shotgun from his bedroom during an escalating argument with his 42-year-old son, Jason Holweg, and fired, striking Jason in the back at about five feet. Emergency responders found Jason unresponsive; he was pronounced dead and an autopsy was ordered to confirm the cause of death as a gunshot wound. Raymond Holweg later contacted emergency dispatchers to report the shooting and was taken into custody at the scene without further violence.
Prosecutors charged Raymond Holweg with second-degree murder and armed criminal action and he was held on a $1 million cash-only bond as the case moved forward. The case centers on whether the use of lethal force was an excessive response to the son’s threat to damage the mobile home. Did anyone in the area know the Holweg family or witness what happened that afternoon?
