On November 25, 2017, a late-night shooting at Hawthorne Place Apartments in the 600 block of North Peck Court in Independence, Missouri, killed two young men. Twenty-year-old Hispanic male Ernesto A. Delahoz and 18-year-old Bradley S. Sartain II were found with fatal gunshot wounds; one victim was discovered in a grassy area outside the buildings and the other inside a residence. Emergency calls about gunfire came in just after 12:30 a.m., and officers who arrived secured the scene and opened a homicide investigation.
Ernesto Delahoz was a father to a seven-month-old daughter. Bradley Sartain II had recently graduated from Truman High School; his vehicle was reported missing from the scene and later recovered in a nearby alley. No suspects were apprehended at the scene, detectives canvassed the complex, and the motive for the killings remained unclear.
Anyone with information about the shooting or who knew either victim is asked to come forward.
