Cournelyous Shay’von Stevenson, a 22-year-old Black man and former U.S. Army soldier who had been stationed at Fort Polk, was found inside a wrecked vehicle in Charleston, Missouri, on November 17, 2017, after authorities responded to reports of gunshots. Investigators determined Stevenson had been shot and opened a homicide investigation.
The inquiry led to the arrests of two local men, 22-year-old Deiontreil Winston and 19-year-old Deon Willis, both charged in connection with the shooting. Court records show they faced first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon charges and were jailed without bond pending further proceedings.
Stevenson’s death had a profound impact on the Charleston community. If anyone has information about what happened that night or knew Stevenson, please come forward.
