On October 30, 2017, police in Independence, Missouri, entered a home in the 12500 block of East 43rd Street South and found 72-year-old William F. Domann dead in a bedroom from multiple gunshot wounds to his face and arm. Stippling and muzzle flash burns indicated shots were fired at close range. Trails of blood led away from the house, suggesting at least one intruder was injured during the attack.
Investigators tied the killing to a dispute over a Corvette and alleged threats from Nathan Hendricks. Prosecutors said Hendricks recruited Xavier Otero and Onelio Garcia to rob Domann, then drove the other two to the house and waited nearby while they forced entry. Surveillance captured a limping man identified as Otero being picked up after the crime, and DNA matched the blood at the scene to him. Otero and Garcia were arrested in early November 2017 and Hendricks was captured November 20, 2017, in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Otero later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, burglary, attempted robbery and armed criminal action and was sentenced to twenty-five years; Hendricks received a twenty-year sentence. Anyone who knew Domann or has information about the robbery or the men involved is asked to come forward.
