On January 13, 2017, 10-year-old Sa’nya LaTrinity Faith Hill was found unconscious at a Carthage, Missouri, residence after suffering a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead several hours later. Two other juveniles were in the home when the shooting occurred; police did not release their ages or relationships to the child.

Investigators determined the handgun involved belonged to the residence. The police publicly described the shooting as appearing to be accidental and said the parent had taken steps to secure the weapon before the incident. No arrests or criminal charges were announced, and no suspects were pursued in connection with Sa’nya Hill’s death.

Does anyone have information about the household circumstances or about safe storage practices in Carthage that could shed light on how a secured firearm became accessible to children?
