Donald Donny Ray Herron Jr. was a 25-year-old father and former college athlete from Grandview, Missouri, remembered by family and friends as outgoing and caring. He had left Missouri Western State University by 2016 to raise his one-year-old son, Major, and was engaged to his fiancée, Santiana.

In the early morning hours of June 6, 2016, three masked intruders broke into the couple’s home on the 6000 block of 153rd Street. The men held Santiana at gunpoint and forced her to call Donald as a lure. Donald and a visiting childhood friend, Tyler Gatewood, arrived shortly after the call and were confronted by the armed men. A fight ensued; Donald was shot three times — in the ankle, thigh, and once in the chest — and later died at a hospital. The attackers fled with a leather backpack, a PlayStation console, and controllers.

Investigators say Donald identified one of the intruders by a street name before he died, but no arrests or charges have been announced and the three suspects remain at large. If anyone knew Donald, the people who were with him that night, or have information about the home invasion, please come forward with tips.
