In the early morning of April 6, 2016, a fire was reported at a home in the 6100 block of Eaton in Berkeley, Missouri. First responders found two women dead inside the burning residence: 26-year-old Cierra Owens and 60-year-old Gerry Denise Smith. Investigators determined both women had been shot to death before the fire was intentionally set.
The house was shared with Smith’s son, who was also Owens’ boyfriend. Cierra’s 2015 orange Chevrolet Camaro was missing from the property after the fire and was later located in St. Louis. The investigation into the double homicide and arson has produced few public developments, no arrests have been announced, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
Cierra’s mother has spoken publicly and held vigils seeking justice, and CrimeStoppers has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to a felony arrest.
