On December 5, 2015, Vickye Lesta Head, 77, was found dead from gunshot wounds in the Moberly, Missouri, home she shared with her husband. The investigation began after her husband, Vernon Edwin Head, 81, walked into a business in nearby Huntsville appearing disoriented and told an employee his wife had been shot. Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office went to the couple’s residence, discovered Vickye Head’s body, and launched a homicide inquiry.
Prosecutors charged Vernon Head with first-degree murder and armed criminal action; he was held on $100,000 bond. Neighbors described the couple as well known in the area and said they often rode horses together, while some acquaintances reported the husband had recently shown signs of declining mental health possibly related to dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The circumstances around what happened in the home remain unresolved.
Did anyone in the Moberly or Huntsville area know the Heads or see anything on December 5, 2015 that could help explain what happened?
