Nathaniel Steven Higgins, 35, of Milo, Missouri, was found dead in the yard of a rural Wentworth home on September 26, 2015, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. The death occurred on a Saturday afternoon in autumn 2015 and was treated as a homicide.

Investigators focused on Clinton Ross Blizzard, 26, as a person of interest after witnesses described a heated, threatening confrontation in which Blizzard was seen displaying a handgun at Higgins as Higgins tried to leave in a vehicle. One witness said Blizzard went back into the residence and then emerged moments later to approach Higgins with the weapon. Blizzard allegedly fled the scene and was considered armed and dangerous.

He was located three days later in Joplin after an off-duty Jasper County jailer recognized him in a store and contacted police. Blizzard was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, and a judge found sufficient evidence to send the case to trial with a court date set for December 2015.
