In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 13, 2015, a domestic dispute in O’Fallon, Missouri, ended when 26-year-old William R. McMahan of Foley was shot several times in the chest and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. after McMahan went to the home of his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend because he could not reach her. A fight between McMahan and the ex-boyfriend led to the shooting.

The ex-boyfriend was taken into custody and told investigators he had acted in self-defense. At the time of initial reports the investigation was ongoing; news coverage did not provide the ex-boyfriend’s name, say whether charges were filed, or report the investigation’s final outcome.
