On November 3, 2013, 25-year-old Colombian national Andrea Jinneth Corredor-Rivera died in an accident at the Salt River Gun Range near New London, Missouri. She had been visiting family and was using a .500-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun at the Ralls County range when the weapon’s powerful recoil caused it to spin backward in her hand. A second round discharged involuntarily and struck her in the head, causing a fatal wound.

Emergency responders reached the scene but Corredor-Rivera had already died. The Ralls County Sheriff’s Department investigated and Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie reported no signs of foul play. Authorities determined the shooting was accidental; no suspects were sought and no arrests were made.

If anyone was at the Salt River Gun Range that day or has additional information about the incident, please share what is known.
